Vote for Love

The November focus-of-the-month essay is written by my teacher Sharon Gannon, co-founder of the Jivamukti Yoga method. It's called "Political Activism and Spiritual Activation. " I hope you will take the time to read it as she offers many valuable insights to contemplate.

Sharon has said that the best way to uplift our own lives is to do all we can to uplift the lives of others, and she encourages us to vote for Love (with a capital L) in all of our actions.

My guru Neem Karoli Baba, affectionately known as Maharajji, offered this advice for those interested in enlightenment: "Love all. Serve all. Feed all." He also said "Food is God. Feeding the hungry is actually worship," "God comes before the hungry as food," and "First bhojan (food) and then bhajan (prayer)."

Perhaps during this month of Thanksgiving when many of us will be feasting, you will be inspired to help those who are hungry in any way you can. Sharon writes in her essay, "Don’t be silent, but use your words to uplift, speak sweetly, kindly, and respectfully. Dare to care: Devote yourself to the global community enough to vote for Love with every action you do."
